The Dog Spot was the dream of husband and wife team Ben Rickard and Shannon Rood. They had met while both working at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, where they bonded over their passion for animals. There, they realized that they could take that passion and make a career out of catering to people and their pets, while strengthening the relationship between dogs and their guardians. After a year of searching for the perfect location, and turning ideas into reality, the Dog Spot opened it’s doors in May of 2004, and they haven’t closed them since. Ben and Shannon know how fortunate they are to be living their dream in Boulder. They get to work daily with happy dogs and their guardians, and they are so thankful to the loyal clients that trust them with the care of their loved ones.
Ben and Shannon have lived and worked with dogs their whole lives. They have a combined knowledge of dog behavior and health, having worked previously with veterinarians, dog trainers and behaviorists, and dog guardians. They have worked at The Humane Society, as well as veterinary clinics, and volunteered fostering a variety of animals, including dogs. They currently have two dogs of their own, Gus and Sally, who attend The Dog Spot regularly.
You’ll find that at The Dog Spot, we cater to the dogs, and we always have your dogs’ best interests in mind. Because we limit the number of dogs we will take, we know each dog extremely well. We treat each dog as if they are one of our own, and we have a unique bond with each and every dog that comes through our door. It is because of our hands-on approach to dog daycare and boarding, that the dog guardians can feel completely confident when leaving their dogs with us.
